CD Release! - March 1, 2008

I can be heard (singing) on a new CD of Michael Gordon's "Van Gogh" opera with the contemporary music group Alarm Will Sound. The CD is released on Cantaloupe Records.

Visiting Artist at Denison University - September 9, 2007

For the 2007-08 academic year, Clay will be the Vale Visting Artist-in-Residence at Denison University. He will work with faculty and students on the technique and performance of Balinese gamelan.

Returning to Eastman - October 28, 2006

I will be returning to Eastman in summer 2007 to lead another Balinese Gamelan Workshop. It will be offered along with African Drumming (with Bob Becker) and Creative Improvisation (with Bill Cahn), or it can be taken on its own. Stay tuned for more details!

My arm was in the NY Times! - October 28, 2006

The John Zorn concert I sang in last week was reviewed in the Times. The review is pretty much descriptive, and doesn't make many judgements about the performance, but you get a sense of what it was like, and you also get to see my arm in the photo (stage left, at the back). Next time, maybe they'll include my elbow:

I am now the instructor for a new community-based Balinese gamelan in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and will be travelling there 1-2 times each month to teach the group!

Conducting Premiere of New Opera with Anti-Social Music - January 15, 2006

I will be conducting the premiere of The Rat Land by Gordon Beeferman (Libretto by Charlotte Jackson) at the Improvised and Otherwise Festival in Brooklyn on April 1. The stage direction will be done by Beth Greenberg of the New York City Opera.

Moving - August 19, 2005

I will finally be moving to NYC in two weeks! But I'll still be travelling to Rochester each week to teach Balinese gamelan ensembles and to Ithaca to be a Visiting Artist at Cornell
